Geelong Railway Station: Building Elements
This interesting steel structure fans out to support a corrugated roof. What stood out to me in this load bearing structure was the heavily bolted cleats which help to support the load of the roof through the long spanning i beams. They give the detail an intricate industrialized feel.

This detail interested me because it reminded me of the soaring vaults seen in some gothic style architecture. I found it interesting that this technique could be adapted to be used in modern steelwork and still have a similar effect on the viewer.

Despite its heavily brick clad exterior the interior of this building is surprisingly light, its intricate steel framed interior a testimate to the technology of the age.
Geelong Railway Station: Exterior
As a Victorian heritage listed peice of architecture the Geelong railway station stands out as a symbol of the importance of the Geelong area as a major town and eccanomic front during the middle of the neinteenth century. Its heavy brick facade masks it's light and rising interior which envelopes visitors as they enter.
